The aim of this meeting, that follows on a series of Spanish Bioinformatics Conferences (Jornadas de Bioinformática), is to provide a forum to present and discuss recent research developments in the broad field of Bioinformatics. The event will take place at the premises of the Ciudad Politénica de la Innovación of the Universitat Politècnica de València.
This year, the reference topic is “Bioinformatics: Challenges and Opportunities in the Horizon Framework” for which the conference will provide the opportunity to discuss the state of the art for the integration of the fields of biology, medicine and informatics, giving special room and attention to activities and future opportunities in the Framework of European R&D collaboration.
The following topics will be addressed:
- (A) Biomedical Informatics: from Biomedical Bioinformatics to Mining Electronic Health Records
- (B) Metagenomics
- (C) Methods matter & Reproducible Science
- (D) NGS Technologies: Genomics & Transcriptomics
- (E) Phylogeny & Evolutionary Bioinformatics
- (F) Structural Bioinformatics & Function
- (G) Systems and Synthetic Biology
- (H) Special Session: Highlights
- (I) Special Session: Student Symposium
We are especially proud to announce our confirmed speakers for this year: Professor Janet Thornton, DBE, FRS, senior scientist at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI – EMBL) in Cambridge, United Kingdom, Professor Berend Snel, professor and chair of the executive board of the Utrecht Bioinformatics Center at the Utrecht University, in The Netherlands, and Professor Vera van Noort, professor and head of the CSB division at the Centre of Microbial and Plant Genetics of KU Leuven, Belgium.
A special Highlight of our Conference is the round-table organized during the 3rd day: “How to bring discoveries and ideas to the market?“
Moderated by Marc Ramis Castelltort (Manager at TBI), and with top speakers such as Kunio Suzuki (Board Member, Advisory Board & Head of Innovation at Fujitsu Technology Solutions),Ana Conesa (BioBam’s Co-founder and Bioinformatics Professor at University of Florida),Manuel Pérez Alonso (Instituto de Medicina Genómica’s CEO), Carlos Esteban (Investment Director at Caixa Capital Risc), and Ángel Alberich-Bayarri (QUIBIM’s CEO & Co-founder); we aim to look at the opportunities and challenges for Bioinformatics entrepreneurs in real-life projects.
The Student Symposium, as a meeting point for students and young researchers will be organized the day before the start of the Conference (May, 10th) and will include a specially significant session “Undergraduate & Graduate programs on Bioinformatics. An overview about current situation and future proposals”. Of special interest to those active in the field of Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching.
