The University of Florida (UF) is the state’s oldest and a major, public, comprehensive, land-grant, research university. With an enrollment of nearly 50,000 students annually, UF is home to 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes. The university has well-regarded graduate programs through the Engineering School, Hough Graduate School of Business, Levin College of Law, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the College of Medicine. UF faculty attracts nearly $700 million in funding and averages 300 new inventions each year and more than 100 biotechnology companies have emerged as a result of UF research.
The University of Florida in Gainesville, through a collaborative effort of 5 research labs, had recently be awarded a project on the integrative statistical analysis of multiomics data in the context of Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis. In this project genomics, gene expression, metabolomics, metagenomics, clinical and demographic data will be combined to understand the environmental triggers of the disease and to develop new diagnostic tools.
This project offers three post-doc and one PhD position in bioinformatics and biostatistics. These researchers will join the Dr. Conesa and Dr. Triplet labs at the Genetics Institute and Microbiolgy and Cell Science Department. Dr. Conesa’s group is interested in the development of computational approaches for the analysis and integration of functional genomics data, having created bioinformatics tools such as Blast2GO, maSigPro, NOISeq, Paintomics. Dr. Triplett’s lab works on the study of microbial diversity and ecology, and are experts in the analysis of clinical metagenomics samples. We seek enthusiastic researchers with a (PhD) degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics or genomics, with experience in the analysis of omics data, either gene expression, metabolomics, or 16S data. Knowledge of R programming and a strong background in statistics are important. Candidates should be able to work independently while collaborating with other project members, and have excellent English writing skills. We offer work in a dynamic multidisciplinary team, immediate incorporation, a 2-year appointment and a competitive salary.
