I am a biostatistician and I lead the Genomics of Gene Expression Group at the Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe, Valencia (Spain) from August 2018, but I am part of the group since 2009. I also teach at the Technical University of Valencia (UPV) and collaborate with the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC).
My main line of research is the adaptation, development and application of statistical methodologies to study the functional aspects of gene expression at the genome-wide level, and which are the mechanisms behind the gene expression regulation. For that I have developed statistical methods and software tools for analyzing transcriptomics data and for integrating them with other types of molecular data, especially for NGS technologies. I am developer of popular software tools such as PaintOmics 3 (visualization of integrated pathway data) or Qualimap (quality control of mapped NGS data), and have published statistical tools for gene expression analysis such as maSigPro (time series analysis), minAS (multivariate feature selection), NOISeq (RNA-seq differential expression analysis), spongeScan (analysis of lncRNAs acting as miRNA sponges) or RGmatch (association of genomic regions to proximal genes). I am currently leading a project where high-throughput sequencing is used to study the integration of multi-omic data types to better understand diseases or phenotypes.
